The First Weekend

After being here for a week, I got to really see Brussels for the first time this weekend! The first night here, I was a little down. All was well after following the best advice from a well-traveled friend (just go to sleep - it'll be better in the morning!) I have been in a sort of survival mode since: figuring out public transportation, bank accounts, and phone service, a touristy weekend was exactly what I needed.  Unexpectedly meeting up with a friend from college made my weekend, and probably my whole year. We visited museums, pondered the Manneken Pis while chewing savory -and then sweet- waffles, observed a wedding in Grand Place, and rode a train or two around Belgium. Instead of exploring alone, I got to see a familiar face, meet new friends, and solve the hardest problems of the day: 1) which is the best chocolate shop in Brussels, and 2) does this cafe have free wifi?

And yes, I did pick a chocolate shop based on it's branding. And no, I do not regret that decision.
